The United Nations World Creativity Day 2022 celebrations are another call for intensifying creative and innovative actions by technology-related government agencies to foster new beneficial partnerships while maintaining ongoing commitment to successful implementation of the digital economy.

Creativity and innovation are at the core of the sustainable technological transformation of every society. These twin elements are important determinants of the prosperity of nations and the well-being of citizens.

It is recognized worldwide that creativity and innovation play a vital role in all human activities, whether at work or at play. Technological innovation is transforming nations’ economies from traditional to digital.

Creativity and innovation has the ability to solve problems that affects various sectors of the world economy. Aside from improving our world, they enable the economy to generate income and create new jobs, fueling economic growth.

Recognizing the important changes that creativity and innovation can bring to local communities, nations and people, the United Nations has declared April 21 each year as World Creativity and Innovation Day (WCID), first observed in 2018.

The UN invites member states, regional and international organizations, civil society groups and individuals to mark the day and follow national priorities to raise awareness of the importance of creativity and innovation in problem solving to promote economic, social and sustainable development achieve development goals.

Continuing Nigeria’s determined transition to a stable digital economy, the federal government, through the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and its affiliates, joins the rest of the global community to commit to the 2022 WCID in line with the country’s commitment to participate in this transformative initiative.

Having identified innovation as a crucial vehicle to implement the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS), NITDA established an office dedicated to fostering Nigerian technology innovation through the creation of Innovation-Driven Enterprises (IDEs) and the protection of such enterprises .

Through the political guidance and support of Minister Mallam Isa Pantami; NITDA and its affiliates have continued to implement the best implementation of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) to grow Nigeria’s digital economy.

Accordingly, the agency has engaged in this transformative initiative by making strategic realignments to consolidate gains and position Nigeria as a leading hub for digital innovation and entrepreneurship globally.

Having identified innovation as a crucial vehicle to implement the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS), NITDA established an office dedicated to fostering Nigerian technology innovation through the creation of Innovation-Driven Enterprises (IDEs) and the protection of such enterprises .

The Office for Nigerian Digital Innovation (ONDI) is one of the crucial Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) created by NITDA to nurture, expand and grow Nigeria’s technology ecosystem through the proliferation of Innovation-Driven Enterprises (IDEs). protect to produce more job providers and sustainable prosperity for Nigeria.

It coordinates and supports policy implementation, enforcement and intervention activities to ensure the protection of IDEs and compliance with local content policies to increase their success.

NITDA also established the National Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR) as a digital laboratory to foster creativity, innovation, and skill development to harness the power of Discovery, Incubation, and Acceleration.

To solve the problems plaguing the country, the focused and relentless execution of Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda by NITDA and its affiliates is imperative for the multiplication of innovation-driven companies across all sectors of the economy.

The center promotes research and development in artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and drones, Internet of Things (IoT) and other emerging technologies aimed at transforming Nigeria’s digital economy.

The global theme for the 2022 UN World Creativity and Innovation Day celebrations is Collaboration. To highlight the importance of collaboration in growing Nigeria’s economy, NITDA has invited local innovators and key players in the public and private sectors to an event commemorating this year’s World Creativity and Innovation Day.

Activities include a startup pitching session with various prizes awarded to eventual winners, an exhibition (expo) for domestic startups to showcase their innovative solutions, and a fireside chat on the theme “Creativity and Innovation: Powering Collaboration for a Sustainable Digital Economy”. lined up to add color to the day.

With existing challenges facing different areas of our lives as individuals and as a nation, creative and innovative technologies remain a crucial way to solve our pressing economic, political and socio-cultural problems.
