The Guelph-based gym incorporates the Circuit 33 Method and other services to ensure clients lead the healthiest lives possible
Guelph resident Geoffrey Shifflett admittedly had a bit of a wake-up call when he realized his weight was having a negative impact on his life.
“I carried a lot of weight and found it was affecting my health,” Geoffrey said.
“I would lose my breath on the stairs. I have a four year old niece who loves to play tag in the garden and I couldn’t keep up with her at all. And the turning point was when I sat at my office desk and realized I couldn’t just cross my right leg over my left leg. Those were all motivating factors that pushed me to get in better shape.”
Geoffrey, who was a member of a big-box gym years ago, admits the more traditional style of the gym made it difficult to motivate yourself to go regularly.
“It was hard because you would be walking and there would be a million different exercises you could do, but there wasn’t really anyone walking me through it and telling me what to do,” Geoffrey said. “It was very overwhelming and frustrating and I ended up not going after just three months.”
Looking for a gym that would hopefully break this mold, Geoffrey searched extensively on Google and he says one gym in particular sticks out in his mind.
That gym was Circuit 33, and Geoffrey mentioned that the Guelph-based gym caught his eye for a variety of different reasons.
“What I liked most about Circuit 33 was that it was inherently a smaller gym and therefore has a good client to instructor ratio,” said Geoffrey. “They essentially offer this full support package where you get proper fitness training, nutritional advice and more.”
“The great thing was also that Circuit 33 gives you that sense of responsibility because you’re actually working with someone who is monitoring your fitness progress at every step.”
Circuit 33 differs from other gyms in that it is exclusively dedicated to only 75 members at a time, with a maximum of three members per floor, and that’s because it allows the gym’s personal trainers to be more attuned to each individual member, which ensures that members can optimally achieve their fitness goals.
Meeting with Randy Dowler, one of Circuit 33’s personal trainers, after getting to know Geoffrey and his goals better, Randy was able to create something called the “Game Plan” for him. The game plan is when staff develop specific workouts and offer members effective nutritional advice based on their fitness goals, which then better encourages members to achieve their goals in a very efficient manner.
After Randy designed his own personal game plan for him, Geoffrey began his training journey with the “Circuit 33 Method,” which are “unique 33-minute circuit workouts infused with high-intensity cardio.” , according to Circuit 33’s website.
The ultimate goal of the Circuit 33 Method is to help members “burn fat, build muscle and improve their movement,” and Geoffrey says this unique style of training has done wonders for his fitness journey so far.
“The most important thing that motivated me was the structure of the circuits. The way Circuit 33 does it, the circuits are completely planned out for you and I don’t have to think about it because the training staff are excellent at showing me the exercises, how to do them and observing my form every step of the way ‘ Geoffrey said.
“It’s also great because the circuit routines change every two weeks, which means I can target different muscle groups and experience the full body workout. And for someone like me who wasn’t very familiar with fitness stuff, being able to really learn how to train properly and being challenged every day was a real selling point.”
And the results speak for themselves, as Geoffrey lost around 40 pounds after just five months of using Circuit 33’s fitness services.
“When I initially met with Randy, my goals centered around health, weight loss, and feeling better in general,” Geoffrey said. “Over time I have met and even exceeded many of my original goals. Working with Randy he was great at supporting my goals and articulating sensible goals broken down into steps which is all the more motivating because it doesn’t make me feel overwhelmed or discouraged.”
Randy, who has been a personal trainer for over 20 years, says he is incredibly pleased with Geoffrey’s progress to this point, and cites Geoffrey’s hard work and incorporation into the Circuit 33 system as key reasons for Geoffrey’s success.
“Geoffrey really made our job easy because he was willing to do anything we asked him to do and he gave us that confidence right away,” said Randy.
“I’m proud of what Geoffrey has been able to achieve and Geoffrey’s journey is a perfect example of what our gym is capable of when someone comes in and asks us for help and really cares about everything we offer because we will immediately reciprocate this commitment and ensure our members are successful in achieving their fitness goals.”
As someone who was initially overwhelmed and frustrated with traditional gyms, Geoffrey says he definitely recommends others to try Circuit 33 and their unique fitness services, especially because of the results he’s experienced.
“I would definitely recommend Circuit 33 because it works. They have an amazing staff who are just so supportive and will hold you accountable because they want to see you succeed and see results to be proud of. They really, really guide you on your fitness journey, and it’s just so refreshing. If you are someone who is intimidated by the gym concept like me, I think Circuit 33 is a great solution!”
