Paul Hogan smokes a cigarette just days after revealing his shocking medical condition

Paul Hogan was spotted smoking a cigarette just a day after revealing his shocking health condition and how desperate he is to spend his final years in Australia.

The 83-year-old star opened up about his health issues in an interview with A Current Affair host Tracy Grimshaw on Monday night.

He said he has been struggling with muscle wasting and dramatic weight loss after being diagnosed with retroperitoneal fibrosis, a rare condition that causes inflammation and extensive scar tissue in the abdominal cavity.

The actor revealed a benign growth had wrapped around the abdominal aorta and was pressing on his kidney.

A frail-looking Hogan, famous for his rugged performances in the popular Crocodile Dundee films, was seen strolling through his Venice Beach, Los Angeles neighborhood on Tuesday.

Dressed in blue jeans, a flannel shirt, a leather jacket and New Balance sneakers, he set himself on fire as he crossed a quiet street.

Moments later, Hogan was seen getting into his black Jeep with his son Chance, 24.

The Hollywood star grew up in Sydney’s Granville but finally moved to Los Angeles in 2005.

Hogan is living with Chance in a $3.5 million Venice Beach home after selling a property nearby for $1.995 million in 2015, shortly after his divorce from ex-wife and Crocodile Dundee co-star Linda Kozlowski would have.

The sighting comes after Hogan said he was dying to spend his final years in Australia after his debilitating condition ravaged his health and left him too weak to perform basic tasks on his own.

He admitted to Grimshaw that the devastating effects on his health prompted him to leave Los Angeles and return to the relative calm of his home country.

He said: ‘[I’ve] been better. I had a problem with the aorta in the kidney and the treatment fixed it, but it shrunk me.

“I just… I lost all my body fat and the muscles have all shrunk and the strength hasn’t come back because it made me weak. I get chance to open jars for me.’

He added: “Some of my friends on a diet hate me for trying to eat every fatty and fatty food you can think of. Everything they are not allowed to have. I can’t gain an ounce.«

The actor has been prescribed corticosteroids to reduce his benign growths but is now needing to regain his strength after the health crisis has dramatically altered his body.

Hogan said the steroid treatment was worse than the disease.

“They shrink your muscles and [they’re] meant to make you fat but I got thinner and thinner and thinner,” Hogan revealed.

“I’m trying to put on some fat now…because you feel the cold too much when you don’t have body fat.”

Hogan now has a pacemaker and says he’s being “held together by a string” as he tries to make a full recovery.

The Golden Globe winner said he “maintained” his fitness up to the age of 79 and admits he’s lucky to have been healthy for so long.

“I was still fit. I would still knock out most 40-year-olds,” he said.

“And then I turned 80 and it’s nice to say that ‘turning 80 isn’t for sissies’ because things start to fall apart.”

While Hogan is desperate to return home as his health deteriorates, he says he can’t leave son Chance alone in California.

“I’m not where I should be, but I can’t complain about anything,” he said.

“I’ve had such a gifted life. So many wonderful things have happened to me that I didn’t deserve so I shouldn’t complain but yeah ideally I’d rather be back in Sydney because I miss the rest of my family there.
