VINCENT — Warren Elementary Principal Joseph Oliverio spoke to the Warren Local School Board of Education Monday night to express his gratitude to the school district as he retires at the end of the school year.
He said he was in South Africa five years ago and got a call from Superintendent Kyle Newton. He said he returned to Washington County to meet with Newton and his administration team “I realized that this was a very special place.”
“Fast forward to your success with your building facilities, the moving together of the two schools (Warren and Little Hocking Elementary Schools), the moving together of the two staff, the opening of the building has been a very exciting time in my life.” said Oliverio. “I appreciate the opportunity you offered me five years ago and it has always been a habit throughout my 39 year educational career to attend the board meeting that I am hired at and the board meeting that I attend either resign or retire to participate and thank you for the opportunity.”
He said working with the students, staff and community has been remarkable and he cherishes the memories.
District Operations Committee chair Bob Allen said new equipment was purchased to service the new facilities. He also said the bids for the concession stand/toilet facility are about four times the estimated cost, mostly due to inflation. He said he would like to work with smaller local contractors to hopefully cut some of the costs.
In Building 6, too, inflation is delaying repairs to the gym floor and there are still plans to move the administrative offices from the Sweetapple Road facilities.
Newton said he was excited about Monday night’s agenda in terms of who to hire.
Ashley Skinner was unveiled as the new elementary school principal starting this fall. Steve Harold, athletic director, introduced James Peyton as the new athletic director and Brad Venham as the varsity girls’ basketball coach.
The graduation ceremony will be held on May 20th at 7pm at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center at Marietta College.
